By Road (to Mersing point) |

|
|
- Buses to Mersing (the ferry crossing
point to Tioman) leave from the bus station at the corner of
Lavender St and Kallang Baru.
- Transnational express buses
cost about SGD29.20 to Mersing one way (actually the bus to Kuantan) and normally leaves at 9 am, 10 am and 10 pm.
Please call +65-62947034 for more bus info. On the return leg, the same bus leaves Mersing at 12 noon and 1.30 pm and we advise you purchase these tickets from Singapore on the leg in or in Mersing when you arrive.
At Golden Mile, 5 Star have buses leaving for Mersing daily at 6.30am for SGD31/way. Johora Express also has buses to Larkin Bus Station in Johor Baru at 12.30 pm and S & S Express at 11.30 am and 5 pm. Both these buses go to Larkin for less than RM10.

- Alternatively, go to Queen St bus
station within walking distance from Bugis MRT
Station.
- Buses leave every 15 minutes (SGD2.40
for the airconditioned express bus) and take you across the border
to Larkin Bus Station in Johor Baru.
- From here, there are buses to Mersing
via Kota Tinggi. The journey takes about 3 hours.

- If you are driving from Singapore,
make your way through Kota Tinggi and Jemaluang then on to
Mersing.
- This journey will take 2 to 3
hours.
- Parking at the designated area
outside the ferry terminal in Mersing will set you back RM8 a

Berjaya Air (Tel:
603-78468228; www.berjaya-air.com) flies from Subang Airport to Tioman and back also on Dash 7 (48-seater) aircraft. Flights from Subang to Tioman are daily at 11.25 am and extra flights during the high season at 8 am. On the return leg, flights from Tioman to Subang are at 2.55 pm daily with extra flights at 9.20 am during high season.

Flight lasts about 55
minutes. Look out for lovely island views on landing and take off..

Return tickets are priced
at RM456 for adults and RM242 for children. Half for one way. Upon arrival, please prepare RM5/person for marine park conservation fees. There is also a sea taxi counter at the airport where you can arrange for transport to ABC at RM25/person.

Buses are normally at 9 am, 12.30 pm, 6 pm and 11.30 pm and takes 6 hours to Mersing. The bus stops at the Mersing Bus Station. You can take a taxi to the ferry Terminal for RM8 or if you don't have a lot of luggage, it is a 10 minute walk. Just ask anyone you meet for simple directions.

If you are driving from
Kuala Lumpur, the best way is the North South Highway towards Singapore, turn off at AYER HITAM; turn right at traffic lights after toll plaza and follow directions through Kluang into Mersing.

This drive takes 4 hours.

Parking fee outside the
ferry terminal in Mersing is RM8 a night.

There is only one ferry operator
at present, Blue Water (Tel +607-7998518).

The first ferry is normally at 7.30 a.m. and its last
ones at about 4.30 p.m. depending on tides.

Tickets cost
RM45 one way. From Tioman, the first boat leaves at 8.00 a.m
and the last at about 4.30 p.m. daily. Please get off at Air Batang (ABC) and Eco-Divers is just on the right of the ABC jetty. |

Tanjung Gemuk to Tioman |

Of late, high speed big ferries have started plying this route.
Tanjung Gemuk is about a 30 minute drive from Mersing to the north. It is convenient for those driving down from the north from Kuantan or Trengganu. The journey to Tioman takes one and a half hours.

MERSING ACCOMMODATION

We recommend Timotel (www.timotel.com.my) at RM150/night. They offer free transfers to the Ferry Terminal but please inform them when you check in.

There are numerous budget places to stay in Mersing. Backpackers can try East Coast or Omar's. Other options in the RM80 region are Sweet Inn and Mersing Inn. Embassy Hotel have older type rooms for RM40 to RM50.

You can just walk in and get something ordinarily but please note all these places are a good 10/20 minute walk to the ferry terminal or you can just flag down a taxi for RM5 or less if you have too much to carry. |
